Outdoor Credit Meter Program

The City of Ripon launched a new Outdoor Credit Meter Program to support residents making property improvements like installing pools or planting new lawns — projects that require significant outdoor water use.

How It Works:

Residents can rent a special outdoor meter from the Water Department (560 Aspen St., Ripon, WI) that attaches to a garden hose and tracks outdoor water use. This allows the city to credit your sewer bill for water used strictly outside.

Steps to Participate:

  1. Submit a meter request form in advance: https://www.cityofripon.com/outdoorcreditmeterrequestform. This can also be found on the Water Utility page: www.cityofripon.com/waterutilityunder Outdoor Meter Program section.
  2. Pick up the meter after approval.
  3. Use the water outdoors only (no indoor or sewer-connected use)
  4. Return the meter for sewer usage credit

Fees & Rules:

  • 5-day rental (e.g., pool fill): $5
  • 30-day rental: $10 (31 days = 2-month charge = $20)
  • Late return (30+ days): $175 fee (full meter cost)
  • Improper use (e.g., sewer discharge): $50 penalty + meter removal

Important Restrictions:

  • Only for outdoor use (lawns, pools, vehicles, etc.)
  • No water may enter the sanitary sewer
  • Violations may result in denial of future requests
