**NEW** Ripon Historic Preservation Commission Grant Program

Overview:

The Ripon Historic Preservation Commission (RHPC) has created a grant program to support projects that adhere to historic preservation guidelines in the Watson St. Historic District. This grant aims to encourage and assist property owners in maintaining and restoring the historical integrity of their buildings and surroundings.

 

Grant Amount:

Each selected project may be awarded a grant of up to $500.

 

Eligibility:

  • Location: The property must be located within the Watson St. Historic District.
  • Ownership: The applicant must be the property owner or have written permission from the property owner to apply.
  • Compliance: Projects must comply with the Ripon Historic Downtown Design Manual. This includes receiving a Certificate of Appropriateness and all required permits for the project.

 

Type of Projects:

Specific eligible projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Archtop windows
  • Tuckpointing
  • Original historic restoration based on historic preservation guidelines

 

Application Process:

  • Application Form: Complete the RHPC Grant Application Form. This includes submission of a Certificate of Appropriateness Application for the project.
  • Project Description: Provide a detailed description of the proposed project, including scope, materials, and methods to be used. 
  • Budget: Include a budget breakdown outlining the total cost of the project and the amount requested.
  • Timeline: Provide an estimated timeline for project completion.
  • Supporting Documents: Attach any relevant documents, such as photographs of the current state of the property, historical documentation, and any necessary permits.

 

Submission:

Submit the completed application and supporting documents to the Building Inspector, HPC Chair, and City Administration as part of the Certificate of Appropriateness application.

 

Award Criteria:

  • Historical Significance: The project's potential to enhance the historical integrity of the Watson St. Historic District.
  • Feasibility: The project's likelihood of successful completion within the proposed budget and timeline.
  • Compliance: Adherence to the Ripon Historic Downtown Design Manual.
  • Impact: The project's potential to serve as a model for other preservation efforts in the community.

 

Review Process:

Applications will be reviewed by the RHPC at a regularly scheduled meeting. The committee will evaluate each application based on the selection criteria and may request additional information or a site visit as part of the review process. It is requested that the applicant be present during the review meeting.

 

Grant Disbursement:

Funds will be disbursed upon submission of a the Grant Reimbursement Form and project receipts for a completed project. All required inspections must be completed prior to reimbursement is made.
